National Youth Report of Kazakhstan

Abstract
In the context of a geopolitical crisis, new challenges and threats present for Kazakhstan. In the national report "Youth of Kazakhstan-2014", prepared by the Scientific-Research Centre "Youth" (hereinafter - SRC "Youth") commissioned by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the status of youth was reviewed. As of the beginning of 2014, their number constituted 4,293,353 persons or 25% of the total population of Kazakhstan. The National report consists of 8 chapters, which describe the social and demographic processes in youth environment; analyze the major components of the young generation’s vital functions such as health, education and science, participation in social and political processes, socio-economic status and value orientations in detail. The National report "Youth of Kazakhstan - 2014" is based on scientific data, official data of central and local executive bodies, large industrial enterprises and national companies, information from online sources available in the public domain. The evidence base of the report consist of sociological studies of SRC "Youth" carried out in 2014. In each survey participated at least 2,000 respondents aged 14 to 29 from all social groups, which reside in 14 regions (oblasts) of Kazakhstan and the cities of republican significance Astana and Almaty. Moreover, the report relies on the results of the National Online Consultation with Youth, an initiative of Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan conducted by SRC "Youth" with support from a joint programme of United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and European Union Delegation to Kazakhstan. In consultations participated 564 young people via focus group sessions and 3,616 young people expressed opinion in online survey. The document below incorporated Kazakh, Russian and English versions into a single report.
