The British Youth Council aim to compliment the policy research led by and the mapping documents already produced by the Open Societies Foundation. Our expertise is on national participation structures and the international opportunities for young people’s voice in global decision making. Our research will focus on mapping these and sharing information and knowledge. Read more here.

Our research and analysis on national participation structures will support the research and knowledge sharing and our additional analysis will draw out learning on best practice for national structures for youth voice and influence. National participation refers to youth councils, youth parliaments, national forums and leading youth organisations.

Our international focus is to create a home for information on international youth participation and be a resource and learning base. A profile page will be created for all the opportunities for youth in global decision making using the three categories:

  • Spaces & Places – Such as the Global Youth Forum, G8/G20 Youth, One Young World Summit
  • Formal international structures – Such as UN Youth Delegates, UN-HABITAT Youth Board, Commonwealth Youth Forum & European Youth Forum.
  • Global issues – Such as climate change, sustainability, poverty eradication.

Research is currently underway and we will launch these pages in December 2012.
