We started the new year with a new series of youth work documentaries, in which we portray youth workers and youth work projects from around the the world. In the first video documentary, Meet Yasmin Sheikh, Rashid Aslam and Irfan Yusuf introduced us to their boxing project in Leicester in the United Kingdom. In this second documentary, we meet Ousman Jallow, José Ramon Mariñes, Aly Dieng, Dioulde Balde, Amine Sonko, Abdelmounim Simek, Marta Vallespin, Kristian Draxl and Josep Ma Aragay from Basketbeat, a collaboration between El Casal dels Infants and Ribermúsica in Barcelona, who show us how Bàsquet Beat makes young people feel like being part of the community - thanks to the music.

About El Casal dels Infants: El Casal dels Infants del Raval (“The Raval Children’s House”) works to achieve improved and sustainable conditions in the quality of life of the marginalized and most vulnerable young people in the “Barrio del Raval” (a neighborhood of Barcelona). Among the organizations´ activities are the support of children and young people in their schooling process, collaborating with the schools in developing new working models, and supporting unaccompanied immigrant minors (more than 50% of the young people the organization works with are immigrants).

About Ribermúsica: The Ribermusica Foundation, created in 1995 in the well-known Ribera neighborhood of Barcelona, took as its inspiration the project developed by José Antonio Abreu: “Sistema Nacional de Orquestas Juveniles e Infantiles de Venezuela.” Following the same guiding principle - to provide access to music for young people from underprivileged backgrounds - the Ribermusica team adapted their project to life in Barcelona.
