Ellen is a researcher and analyst with a special interest in policy and its implementation. A core motivation in her work is to overcome structures of inequality and – as well as by – strengthening democratic participation. She got hooked on youth issues, when she became a student activist in her teens. At 19 she went to work for the European school student organisation, OBESSU. Later Ellen studied political science in Berlin and Istanbul with a focus on social and labour market policies. An internship with the ILO Social Security Department took her thoughts and eventually herself even further away, to India – where she did her PhD field work on social protection in developing contexts. In her free time you’ll find her plucking berries and making jams at a communal garden, swimming in one Brandenburg’s myriads of lakes or on the back of her beloved bike.
